Well… I was debating on what I should post as our very first post on the new blog here at The REI Brain.  I hashed around ideas like… “the best way to get started in real estate!”… “how to systematically reach your life goals”… and other cutsie topics that everyone has heard before. 

Then, I realized that telling people out there (you) how to get started in real estate isn’t important.  It won’t do you a bit of good.

99% of all people who go to real estate investing seminars, buy the courses, read the books…. etc.  WILL NEVER do a single deal.  Why is this??  Well, I can guarantee that the root of the low percentage of success issue has nothing to do with not knowing enough information.  Reading one decent book, going to one decent seminar, or following one decent real estate investing course will give you enough information to get started.  The rest of your learning will actually take place by…. BY DOING! 

I think everyone should live by the Nike motto (whether you like them or not).

“Just do it!” 

It’s so simple, yet extremely powerful.  The world was created by doers… is led by doers… and every advance the world has known has been because of doers.  If the Wright brothers would have waited until they knew everything possible about aviation and had no doubts before they started… we would still be glued to the ground… that is until the a “doer” came along and had enough guts and gumption to take a risk and put their education and know how to action.

I can guarantee you that the Wright brothers weren’t the first people to dream up manned flight and try to learn about it; however, they were the first to actually put their knowledge to use successfully because they went from the dreaming stage to the action stage. 

Success is dreampt about in the dreaming and education stage and realized in the action stage. 

Well, my rant is over.  Almost… the most frustrating thing that I hear is, “If I only knew how to do _____ I would get started…. or I just need that one secret or bit of information to click and I will be set.”  I’m here to say that you will never have all of your questions answered and there is no universal “secret” to success.  The single best way to get your questions answered and find your personal “secret” to success is to figure it out by doing. 

Now, I’m sure you have read some articles, maybe purchased a course or two, and maybe even attended a seminar.  I’m telling you right now… you have all of the knowledge you need to get started.  The rest will “magically” appear as you go.  If you asked me what is the fastest way to learn how to invest in real estate I would say this…

Learn the basics from a mentor, course, bootcamp, etc… then put one and only one strategy you have learned to work for you immediately.  You will learn 1000x faster by doing than you ever will by reading how others have done it. 

I went into this blog post not having a clue what I should write about, but I dove in and did it because I realized that I will never find that “perfect first blog post”… it doesn’t exist.  Now, you need to learn the basics and dive in.  You will figure it out.  When the time does come that you have a question that you absolutely need answered before you proceed, come back here and shoot me a question… go to our real estate forums, and ask others who have done it before. 

Get out there and just get started.
