A lesson (or two) to learn from the Casey Serin mess…
>> DISCLAIMER <<
I don’t usually like to get involved in writing posts like this, on subjects that don’t help our readers actually move forward to their real estate and life goals.
However, there’s just a bit I want to say and show you what to learn from the whole Casey Serin fiasco.
================

Hi all…
I actually debated on whether or not to make this post. We like to provide our readers with high quality content to help you reach your real estate, business, and life success goals.
Anyhow, the whole Casey Serin mess can teach you a ton of lessons in life, real estate, and business. So, I’ll tie them all in for you.
First, let me update you on the Casey Serin saga as it is today in a quick shot of bullet points:
-
All of Casey’s properties have been foreclosed on as of a month or two ago and he is stuck with a few hundred thousand in debt to repay.
-
Casey announced his book deal that will (or would have) layed all of his mistakes out for all to see and hopefully learn from. Most of all, it’s for the publisher and Casey to profit from… because pretty much all of Casey’s mistakes are right on his blog for FREE.
-
Casey shut off his blog for a few days…. then it came back. He said he wanted to quit blogging… but partly because of his book publisher he re-launched it.
Now… fast forward to today…
- Casey decided to shut down his blog, throw away his book deal, and sell the iamfacingforeclosure.com website.
- Casey decided to “get a w-2 job” and begin paying off his bills
- Casey announced that his marriage is shot and he needs to get all of this living in a glass house stuff done.
Anyhow, just like the rest of the 10k+ of the daily readers of the blog (last night was actually the first time I have read the blog in a few weeks), the last day or two has taken an interesting turn.
There is a guy (LossMitPro) that was trying to “help” Casey and his wife with their credit and some other things, that has now sued Casey for defamation of character and something else for a couple comments that Casey left about this guy on his blog.
In addition, apparently the guy who offered to buy the iamfacingforeclosure.com website, (Duane) has offered $20k + 50% of the revenues for the next 12 months and Casey accepted it…
… that is until today.
The happenings from today are what pushed me to make this post.
As you know, there are some “haterz” (as they call them) that have made it their lifes mission to rub Casey so far into the ground that he cannot get back up from it. This is what I completely disagree with.
Here’s just a couple of the Casey Serin “haterz” websites out there (who seriously has the time to create these websites):
This LossMitPro (can’t mention his name because that is why he is sueing Casey right now) sounds like he is an attorney and is using his “status” to railroad Casey. Apparently the defamation of character affected this guys business and reputation, so he sued. This part is fine and I do not disagree with this part.
The part that pisses (sorry for the language) me off is the way LossMitPro, Duane (the buyer), and a select other people who have nothing better to do with their time than live and die by the next move from Casey Serin and chastise him for every decision he makes.
Sunday these guys made a podcast that, at best, is a complete bash session (complete with more four letter words than I’ve ever said in one sitting) calling him every name in the book, saying he doesn’t care about his wife, he has no backbone (may be true), and a whole bunch of other stuff that is fit for a conversation between a few 14 year old bullies tearing into a down and out kid who has already had enough bashings to go around for 30 people.
Just a note, the LossMitPro and Duane guys don’t seem like they’re all that bad. Wrong intentions… maybe… but are acting somewhat civily. It is the idiot hosting this podcast that is the real waste of bandwidth. It would be interesting to see what this guy does for a real job.
Did Casey do a whole bunch wrong in real estate, his life, his business (he never really had a “business”), his relationship, etc? He sure did.
Does Casey deserve a bit of criticism? Sure does.
But these guys are getting their 5 minutes of “fame” (not even going to get 15 minutes) by being a mix between Dr. Phil and Andrew Dice Clay and have intentions far beyond what they want to reveal to everyone.
All of these guys keep saying, “I was just trying to help Casey and Galina (his wife)”. Is this true? Maybe. But you can easily tell that some of these guys have a bit more in mind with Casey.
What this reminds me of is some of the real estate investors out there who go after motivated sellers and try to capitalize on their state of mind. These types of investors find a seller who is in a bad situation and look to take advantage of that desparate situation. Some might say that this is what real estate investors do.
UNTRUE!
Legitimate real estate investors are there to help the seller… not take advantage of them.
I would compare these guys “helping” Casey to those investors out there preying on desparate sellers, and giving all real estate investors a bad name.
It’s not that these guys are trying to “help” Casey, it’s the manner that they have gone about throwing tantrums whenever something doesn’t go their way. Anyone truly with the right intentions would not even want a part of any of the actions (the podcasts, the blog posts, the other smear tactics) these guys are taking part of.
These actions discredit these guys and really puts their true intentions into question.
Are they trying to help Casey? Maybe. Are they going about it the right way. Probably not.
Well… this whole Casey Serin thing is a complete mess and is far from over. The wake that Casey has left (and is still creating) will be talked about for a while and it is a BIG LESSON for EVERYONE. YES EVERYONE whether you are a real estate investor or not.
The biggest lesson that everyone can learn with this whole mess is to go about life in a way that when you die… you can say that you lived life in a way that people will remember you and say, “knowing him/her had a positive impact on my life”.
Can Casey and these other opportunists say that right now?….
Hmmmm… something to think about.
Well, this is the longest blog post I’ve ever written. Not proud to say it was about something like this… but I truly believe there is a lot that you and I can learn by analyzing the whole situation.
In the next couple weeks, we’ll further analyze the situation to pinpoint the places that everyone can learn from in a big way.
