Self Improvement Tip of the Week – Do you believe in luck?
As a real estate investor in todays real estate markets, many people say that you have to
be lucky to be successful.
Is this true?
Well, I think that there is a small degree of “luck” involved in parts of any businesses success. I mean, often times people are in the right time at the right place and their lack of knowledge or experience does little to stop success from falling into their laps.
But, really… when you look at success in everything… luck isn’t really what it seems.
For instance, like the example above with being at the right place at the right time in real estate investing… even if you know very little about real estate investing… I think luck plays a very small role in that (if any).
Read this great quote:
“Shallow men believe in luck. Strong men believe in cause and effect”
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm….
So, luck is in the eye of the beholder.
From what I have seen in the successful people I work with and study from, people tend to look at situations from different colored lenses.
Those who haven’t found success, who are jealous of others successes, who find excuses for why they aren’t living their dream believe luck is alive and well.
These types of people are the ones that look for that simple fix that will solve their problems instantly. They feel sorry for themselves because they are so “unlucky” and wonder why everyone else always catches all of the luck.
But, on the other hand…
Successful people tend to kind of banish luck from their vocabulary. Ya, successful people sometimes say, “ya, I got lucky with this deal”… but they know that it isn’t luck at all.
Successful people create their own “luck” and put themselves in the position to do what may seem “lucky”.
Like the example at the top of this page… for successful people, being at the right place at the right time is something that is created… not luck.
So, instead of thinking how unlucky you are or how lucky those who are successful have been… start to think about how you can put yourself in a position to be “lucky”.
In real estate investing you can become one of the “lucky ones” by getting yourself out there and putting yourself in the position to be lucky.
If you are just starting out in REI, odds are that you haven’t yet even made an offer yet. So, here are a few action steps that will help you get “lucky” (or in other words… put yourself in a position to catch a little “luck”).
- Join your local Real estate investment club
- Learn your real estate market
- START MAKING OFFERS
By doing just those three things, you’ll put yourself in a position to be lucky… or as us “successful” people say, your actions will cause your success… no matter how lucky it may seem.
Good luck and get out and make your own luck!
