Self Improvement Tip of The Week – Discover your passion for life…

passion for life - real estate investingIf I were to sit down with you and ask you to tell me what you passion for life was… would you truly be able to articulate what your true passion is?

Do you life your passion right now?  Odds are that you don’t.  Most people don’t.

I’m still young and by no means proclaim to come even close to having realized my lifelong dreams or began to live my passion to its fullest extent.  I still have a lot of lessons to learn and a lot of life to experience before I get there.  However, I am right now in the middle of a bit of a transformation when it comes to the mental game of success.

For the past 18 months or so I have had certain goals and dreams that I have been “pursuing”.  But… the problem is that in these last 18 months I haven’t gotten any closer to many of those goals and dreams.

Is this because I’m not doing things everyday to reach them?

Nope.  I’m actually doing pretty darn good in mapping out what needs to be done each and every day to reach these goals… and doing a good job in actually getting those priorities done.

However, there are some goals that I have that are extremely important… however, I’ve been at a stall in actually seeing results for over a year.

The other day I sat down to figure out why the heck it seemed like these goals were never going to be reached.  I analyzed my goals, my life, what I’ve been doing, where I want to go… etc.  And finally came to the realization that I was missing one thing with these particular goals…

….

PASSION <==

Although these goals and projects are very important to me… for some reason I just didn’t have enough passion for the goal as it was phrased to get myself to truly make massive strides towards reaching them.

I know, it sounds kind of stupid… if I took the time to think up these goals and say they are important to me… doesn’t that mean that I have passion for them?  Well… kind of…

With these goals… I had passion for reaching them… but for the wrong reasons.

For instance, one of my goals is to rehab a 4 plex I have owned for about 4 years and sell it so I can roll it up into a bigger property.  While I’ve been moving forward toward this goal and have been doing small projects here and there on the property… I never did see that big breakthrough because I had passion for that goal… but not the passion that grabs me deep within my soul and compels me to reach it.

My goal for that property was to put about $20k into the property this last summer… and sell it the spring of next year.  I’m embarrased to say that I’m nowhere near reaching that goal.

When I looked at that goal… I discovered that I really had no compelling reason why I wanted to reach that goal.  Sure, I wanted a bigger property… but why?  What would a bigger property do for my life?  I had never really thought of that.

But, the other day I delved deep within myself to find out if this goal is really that important to me… or whether it simply needed to be in better alignment with my overall life plan and passions.

After looking at everything for a while, I came to the realization that my big motivation for rehabbing and selling the property was to ultimately increase my monthly income… and help my wife and I live a better life.  In particular, we are wanting to start a family toward the end of next year… and I want there to be no financial worries when the time comes… and I want my wife to be able to not work at all… and just do what she wants.

That is my passion for getting that property sold and investing in a larger property.  That is also my passion for many of my other financial goals… but I just hadn’t pinned then down yet.

For the past 18 months I’ve been chasing after a high monthly income just for the sake of having more money.  Now, I’ve finally discovered that the reason I want a higher monthly income is so I can provide a comfortable life for my wife and I… and our future children.  That is what truly gets me motivated to reach my goals… but money just for the sake of having it did nothing for me at all.

So… after this long and drawn out story… I hope that you realize that in life you need to strive toward your goals based on the passions that drive you to live… that drive you to be happy… and that drive you to make a difference.

If your goals aren’t aligned with your true passions in life… I’m betting that you aren’t where you want to be in life.

Discover what your true passions are… and gear your goals and motivations based on those passions.  If you’re having a tough time finding out what your true passions are… keep digging until you find them.  You’ll know when you discover your true passion and reason for living… and when you do… run with it and always keep it at the top of your mind when you begin moving toward your goals.

So, get away from the computer right now and figure out why you really are wanting to invest in real estate… or whatever else you are striving towards right now.  Once you find out why you truly want what you want… things will start taking shape more quickly than you ever imagined.

Cheers and have an excellent week!
