6 steps to success – achieving your goals one step at a time

Do you want to know one of the easiest and most effective “tricks” to getting more done and staying on track to your goals?

I’m sure you do…

Now, this “trick” works extremely well for many people and not so well for others.  The ones it works well for are the ones that actually use it :-)

I’m not sure if there is an actual name for this system, but we’ll call it 6 steps to success.

Here we go.  You’ll be amazed at how simple this is… and if you build it into your daily routine… just how effective it will be.

So, right now, grab a piece of paper and do this:

  • Write the numbers 1 – 6 on this paper going down the paper
  • Now, think about your most important, most pressing, short-term goal for your success
  • Now, think about the biggest task that needs to be done to enable you to get closer to your goal
  • Now, on that piece of paper, write the 6 most important steps that you need to take to complete that task.

Now, you have an action plan right there to get you going.  6 simple steps to success in that particular goals.

Each and everyday you should write out the 6 most pressing steps that you need to take to get closer to a specific goal. If you do this, it will help you stay on track.

That’s one way that found really helped me to take action much easier… rather than being paralyzed over what the heck I should do next.

Here’s an example from my real world experience.

One of my big short term goals right now is to get this rehab done on a 4 unit apartment building I own out of town.

I am looking at putting about $20k into this property then selling it sometime in 2008 to “roll up” into a larger property.

So, I pinpointed the goals… the big tasks… then the steps to complete the task.   Take a look at it below:

  • Goal: Rehab and sell the 4 unit property in S. Oregon
    • “Big Rocks” -
      • Rehab the property
        1. Set up walkthrough with contractor and realtor
        2. Receive bid from my contractor
        3. Submit Pacific Power Energy Savings loan application
        4. Write and send notification letter to tenants about work to be done
        5. Review and sign approved bid to get going on construction
        6. Finalize financing for project

As you can see, this is a very simple example of the 6 steps to success.  Truly, you should even go a bit deeper and in more detail with your 6 steps.  For instance, I should have a 6 steps chart for “Submit Pacific Power Energy Savings loan application” to make it even more tangible and clear.

QUICK NOTE:  The more clear and concise you make each of your steps, the easier it is to complete the tasks and reach your goals.  If you make the tasks too vague, it becomes very easy to put off the tasks.

Anyhow, that is the simple 6 steps to success formula.  Use it everyday and see your productivity and results skyrocket.

Have a great week!
