Is The REI Brain a top Real Estate Investing resource? Google thinks so!

UPDATE:  Big roller coaster ride… no longer #4.  Lesson… analyze things to figure out why they are like they are… then once you have results that show you why… base your excitement off of the long-term data… not off of a one time fluke or huge increase in leads. ;-)

——–

Wow… today I went about my routine “stat reports” for The REI Brain to see whereSearch google for people are coming to the site from. By the way, this kind of thing should be done in ANY business including real estate investing because you should always know how people are getting a hold of you.

When you know how people are getting a hold of you… you can then see what marketing activities are paying off… so you can then increase your ad spend on high producing ad and activities… and reduce spend on crappy marketing activities.

Anyhow, when I checked my stat report today it shows that the term “real estate investing” is now the 2nd biggest search term that people are coming to my site for.

So, I was curious at how high The REI Brain ranks in Google for that term…. and to my surprise The REI Brain is ranked #5 for “real estate investing”. WOW!!

That came out of nowhere!

I’m just behind MSN, REI Club, and Creonline.

What Does This Mean?

This means a few things:

  1. Over the past few months a bunch of other websites have been pointing to The REI Brain as an awesome resource for REI information… that’s an awesome compliment when someone takes time out of their day to read what you have to say… and even better… when they think so highly of it that they refer their readers to it also!
  2. All of the hard work on optimizing the website and content has paid off because the search engines like it
  3. I’m even more excited to finally get the damn redesigned site up and running (as soon as we work the glitches out of the beta version!!!)
  4. A higher ranking means more traffic… more traffic means more people to share their ideas w/ everyone and help everyone become as successful as possible in life and real estate investing.

OR…

Simply that Google is having a little brain fart and did this just to get me excited for a bit.

All in all… this little thing made me REALLY HAPPY today. It’s not the fact that I’m simply ranked pretty well in Google now… it’s the fact that w/ more traffic… I can help more people get out of the rut of inaction in REI and in life… and start living their dream life w/ the help of real estate.

Oh, if you haven’t noticed already… even when I write articles that seem to be not really directly related to real estate… there’s usually a lesson behind it. In this one there’s a few lessons that apply not only to my website… but to life, business, and real estate in general.

Here are the lessons you can learn:

  • It took me almost 2 years to get here (who knows if Google will keep me up there or not… we’ll see), but I never gave up over the 24 months of writing every week. Nope, I didn’t see virtually any results for almost 6 months… saw little results the first year… and now into the 2-3rd years… things are clicking w/ my website and I’m helping a lot of people.
  • You need to know your data and where people are finding you/your company at. When people pick up the phone to call you about a property… ask them every time where they heard about you. Tally the answers up and review them monthly to see which marketing activities are producing the best results. Then, cut back on ones that aren’t producing as well… and increase resources to the marketing activities that are paying off better. Simple business… but most people don’t do it.
  • Truly work to help people and keep your own pockets away from the #1 priority. When you truly work to help people and give them everything you can give… without alterior motives… it will come back to you in spades (that’s a good thing). The second you go into a real estate transaction w/ your pockets the #1 priority… I can guarantee you that over the long haul your pockets will actually be the ones hurting the most.

….

P.S. – I know I’ve really been slacking off on the posts lately. Way too much stuff to do w/ my businesses and I’m in the process of hiring a part-time person to help me w/ all of this web stuff. Once the site redesign is live and off of my plate… the new and relevant content will come streaming back in… and always… UNBIASED and created to truly help you succeed… not to line the pockets of myself or gurus.

My philosophy is if you truly help people succeed w/ no hidden agenda, success will find you and the money will follow. But, when you concentrate on the money being #1… things don’t happen so easily… and they don’t last as long. (that’s a lesson in life and REI as well)

  3. Thanks for your post. It was very timely. I had recently started posting about my actual real estate investments and I am wondering if I am wasting some of my best content on a handful of people.

Revealing the slow build-up of this site gives me renewed energy. Thanks again.
