IRS Being Extra Cautious with Homebuyer Tax Credit Refunds

Like the IRS doesn’t get enough grief…

Since the Homebuyer Tax Credit was extended and changed slightly in November 2009, homeowners wanting to get their refund have to wait up to 4 months for a check and can no longer file electronically.

At first the IRS was to blame for not having a revised form ready to use. But now the problems arise because scammers are flooding the IRS with false refund claims, thus giving legitimate first time homebuyers headaches.

Yes, the greedy always find a way to milk the system and then they ruin it for all the honest, hard working people who deserve the refund. James Otto Price III is the first person convicted of scamming the government, claiming 15 tax refunds for clients.

Now applications are under extra scrutiny, and require copies of drivers licenses, proof of residency, and a signed mortgage statement.
