Revisiting the Elevator Speech

We’ve talked about the elevator speech before and it IS important to have a whittled down explanation of your business when someone asks you at a networking event, “So, what do you do?”

This video intrigued me because within two minutes I knew exactly what Josh Light’s company did, how they did it, and what their projected profits were for the next 12 months. Yes, in 2 minutes Josh said ALL that!

Of course, conveying ALL that information did force him to speak very quickly, which muddled his enunciation a bit, but this is a great example of just how much information we really can tell in a two minute elevator speech. The key is to stick with the most important points and leave the listener wanting more.

Obviously, this is not how you’d want to tailor a pitch to an investor but it’s an interesting exercise for those networking meetings. How long is YOUR elevator speech?
